Secretary General of UCLG-Eurasia Visited Astana

Rasikh Sagitov, Secretary General of Eurasia Regional Section of UCLG paid a working visit to the Republic of Kazakhstan at the beginning of April, where he had a meeting with Zhenis Kassymbek, Akim of Astana.

The parties discussed further cooperation and participation of Astana in UCLG-Eurasia’s activities. Special attention was paid to the promotion of the Akim of Astana to the co-presidency of the World Organization of UCLG. Zhenis Kassymbek signed a letter of consent to be elected to the Presidency.

In addition, Astana expressed interest in holding the Eurasia Local Governments’ Congress in 2024. The municipality will present the opportunities of Astana to the Council of UCLG-Eurasia in October 2023 to decide on the venue of the event.

Rasikh Sagitov also presented a plan of upcoming events and invited Akim and representatives of Astana to the Eurasia Retreat “Eurasia Cities and Global Trends”. This event will be held in Kazan from May 24 to 27, 2023. The organizers are the UCLG-Eurasia and the municipality of Kazan. The event has a learning nature and is devoted to various issues of modern development of international relations of Eurasia cities, practical cases in the formation of a sustainable urban environment, the implementation of the SDGs, improving the city’s image in the international area, etc.
