World Sister Cities Day

Всемирный день породнённых городов

Every year, since 1962, on the last Sunday of April, on the initiative of the World Sister Cities Federation, the world has been celebrating World Sister Cities Day.

Twin cities are not just symbolic relations, but real partnerships, which promote peace, tolerance and development. Today, we would like to thank all sister cities for their contribution into strengthening friendship and cooperation between peoples and wish further successful development, implementation of bright, useful and ambitious joint projects in this field.

Note: World Sister Cities Day is a holiday designed to unite countries and their citizens by organizing local unions of cities. These ties are of friendly nature and are often manifested in the form of visits of foreign delegations to each other. During such events, knowledge of history, culture, economy, education, medicine, etc. is transferred. The beginning of the international movement of twin cities dates back to 1944, when the first friendly agreement in the world was signed between the Soviet hero-city of Stalingrad (now Volgograd) and the British city of Coventry.
